The Medical Valley Center Forchheim lays in the core area or the Medical Valley, the internationally leading cluster in the field of medical technology:
- More than 500 companies are active in medical technology.
- Over 850.000 inpatients are treated in the Medical Valley each year – more than 65 hospitals, coupled with a strong outpatient sector, provide first-class healthcare.
- More than 80 institutes at universities and universities of applied sciences research and teach with a focus on medical technology – furthermore over 20 non-university research institutions have a close connection to medical technology.
- Over 42% of all patent first-filings in Germany in the category “Diagnosis; Surgery; Identification” come from the Medical Valley.
The extraordinary accumulation of relevant stakeholders in combination with the international market and competitive position of individual players are the best prerequisite for accelerating the progress of ideas into products, processes and services.
The excellence of the cluster was highlighted by the designation as national leading-edge cluster by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in January 2010.
Since 2007 the Medical Valley EMN e.V. funktions as cluster management of the region and represents a union of currently over 170 member from business, science, healthcare, networks and politis. Core task of the cluster management is to develop, coordinate and market the cluster.
We chose the Medical Valley so that our clinical studies could be completed at top German hospitals amongst the world leaders in developing and adopting advanced medical technologies. In addition to its supportive and forward-thinking environment, there is a rich pool of medical device talent here.
